Duck is the common name for a number of species in the Anatidae family of birds. Technically, however, the term refers to the female; the male is a drake. The word gander is used for a male goose. Young geese before fledging are called goslings. A group of geese on the ground is called a gaggle; when flying in formation is called a wedge or a skein.
